DSA-JC Application Process

Welcome to the application page for the 2025 DSA-JC exercise, for admissionin year 2026.

If you are applying to Victoria Junior College through DSA-JC, please:

  1. Complete and submit theonline DSA application form (openfrom 7 May 2025 to 6 July 2025), with supporting documents as pdf or photoattachments

  2. Take note of the key information for your chosen talentarea, such as selection process, criteria and dates.

The set of supporting documents comprises the following:

  • CCA records – (all available records in Secondary school);

  • Exam result slips – Sec 3 (End of Year exams and Overall), Sec 4 (WeightedAssessment results)*;

  • Other supporting documents – such as awards or the highest certificationof achievements;

  • For students applying for our Niche Academic Programmes (Drama Elective Programme (DEP), Humanities Programme, Infocomm Technology (Computing), Science Research),include any relevant supporting documents as per the instructions for thespecific Talent Area

You should get these documents and a digital passport-sized photograph of yourself ready before you start the online application.

*We understand that some secondary schools may not have released the Sec 4 Weighted Assessment results at the time of your application. Affected applicants may submit their DSA application by 6 July 2025 without this set of results. Once you receive the Weighted Assessment results, you may email the results to the teacher-in-charge of your chosen talent area. For Sec 5NA students who are applying, you can attach your Sec 4NA results and any Sec 5NA WA results you might have.

Successful applicants may be asked to show proof of originals of the aboverecords during the offer phase.

Applications should reach us by06 July 2025, 2359hr.Incomplete applications (such as those with incomplete information or withouta complete set of supporting documents) may not be considered.

Before you submit your application, please ensure that your parent acknowledges, understands and agrees to the following:

  • The Government of Singapore may collect, use, and disclose any personal data which I have provided in this application for the purpose of facilitating my child’s junior college arrangement and where my child is allocated to a DSA-JC school, for administering and managing my child’s relationship with that school and the Ministry of Education.

  • Once my child is successfully allocated to a DSA-JC school, he/she will not be able to participate in the annual Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE) to opt for another school/course.

  • My child is required to honour his/her commitment to the allocated DSA-JC school for the duration of the JC course.

  • I undertake not to transfer my child to another school after the release of the O-Level results.

  • Should the other parent contest my child’s allocation to a DSA-JC school, I undertake to resolve the issue with him/her directly.

  • All the information provided by me in this application is true and correct.

  • The Ministry of Education is entitled to remove my child from the allocated DSA-JC school and enroll my child in any school as may be determined by the Ministry of Education in its sole discretion if:
    (a) I have provided false information in this application;
    (b) I am unable to resolve any dispute with the child’s other parent with regard to my child’s choice of school as stated above; or
    (c) Any person (including me or the other parent or any other person connected with my child) has offered or given or agreed to give to any other person any gift or consideration of any kind as an inducement or reward for showing favour or disfavour to any person in relation to my child’s DSA application.

Performing Arts

Selection will be based on a basket of criteria for the respective talentarea.
Auditions will take place in Victoria Junior College. Note the dates andtimes for auditions. The teacher in-charge will contact shortlisted applicantsto confirm the date and time allocated.

Chinese Orchestra

Date and Time of Audition :
12 July 2025, Saturday, 8.30am – 1.00pm
16 July 2025, Wednesday, 4.30pm – 7.00pm

Venue : Chinese Orchestra Music Room

Format : All applicants are required to perform a piecethat contains at least 16 bars each of fast and slow tempo. Applicantsfor percussion instruments are to prepare a piece that showcases contrastingtempo as well.
Applicants will also be given a sight-reading exercise comprising at least8 bars of music and undergo an interview after the audition.

Selection Criteria :

  1. Applicants should display a high level of musicality.

  2. Applicants should pass the interview

  3. Applicants should possess the ability to cope with the academic rigourof the JC curriculum.

  4. Priority will be given to players from the wind, plucked strings and bowedstrings sections, as these are our areas of need. We are not offering DSAplaces for Guzheng.

Choir

Format : All applicants are required to undergo an audition(vocal testing exercise) conducted by the choir master, as well as an interview.No song preparation is required.

Selection Criteria :

  1. Applicants should display a high level of musicality.

  2. Applicants should pass the interview.

  3. Applicants should possess the ability to cope with the academic rigourof the JC curriculum.

  4. Priority will be given to singers from the male chorus as these are ourareas of need.

Concert Band

Format : All applicants are required to play two contrastingpieces of their choice, and to prepare all major scales. Percussionistsshould prepare one piece on mallets and another piece on drums or drumset. Applicants will also undergo an interview.

Selection Criteria :

  1. Applicants should display a high level of musicality.

  2. Applicants should pass the interview.

  3. Applicants should possess the ability to cope with the academic rigourof the JC curriculum.

  4. Priority will be given to players from the brass section, as this is ourarea of need. We are not looking for pianists.

Contemporary Dance

Format : There will be 3 rounds to the auditions.Shortlisted candidates who clear each round will complete all 3 roundswithin the allocated slot.

IMPORTANT NOTES
We warmly invite dancers with strong technical foundations, confidentperformance skills, and versatility across genres to audition. We thereforeencourage applicants to thoughtfully consider their readiness and not treatthe audition as a trial or exploratory attempt. This ensures that yourtime and energy are respected, and that the audition experience is meaningfulfor all involved.

We are especially keen to welcome more male dancers into our ensemblegiven the variety of genres offered in our dance programme — if you’retechnically strong and ready to grow further, we’d love to see you at auditions.

Round 1
All applicants will be required to prepare a solo dance piece to a songof their choice, of not more than 1 minute.

Please note that candidates must apply based on only one ofthe following dance genres:

  1. Contemporary

  2. Standard Ballroom

  3. Latin Ballroom

  4. Street Dance (only Hip Hop , Break Dancing, Popping,Locking)

All other dance genres namely, Ethnic dance (Chinese, Malay, Indian dance),fusion dance forms or other forms of street dance will not beeligible for consideration.

Round 2

Applicants who pass Round 1 will learn and perform a contemporary choreographytaught by our instructor. This round assesses your ability to translateinstruction into performance effectively, embody and execute choreographywith precision under time constraints.

Round 3

Applicants who pass Round 2 will proceed to Round 3.
All shortlisted applicants will undergo an interview with the selectionpanel.

Attire :
All applicants should audition in the dance gear and footwear suitablefor their respective dance genres.

Selection Criteria :

  1. Applicants should display technical excellence, musicality,and performance quality in your solo performance (Round 1) and during choreographyexecution (Round 2).

  2. Applicants should display versatility. While you audition in one genre,those with demonstrated strength across multiple styles are highly regarded.

  3. Applicants should possess the ability to cope with the academic rigourof the JC curriculum.

Niche Academic Programmes

Physical interviews will be conducted in Victoria Junior College. Studentsapplying for Niche Academic Programmes are required to produce an additionalpersonal statement/essay, which can be uploaded as a PDF as an additionalsupporting document. Drama Elective Programme (DEP)

Format:
(1) All applicants must submit a personal statement (maximum 500 words) detailingwhy he/she wants to join DEP and his/her involvement in drama related activities with supporting documents where relevant by 30 June, Monday.These supporting documents may include:
- your curriculum vitae
- portfolio of sketches, drawings,photos showcasing design process/ideas
- certificates of drama accreditationor evidence of participation in drama-related activities
- links to videos of past performances

(2) Shortlisted applicants will then benotified via email and required to attend an audition where they:
- perform a short scene live (6-7mins in length)provided by the school on the day of audition,
- answer accompanying short response questions to thescene
- will be interviewed

Selection Criteria:
- Demonstration of passion intheatre
- Demonstration of clear potentialin acting and/or design
- Possesses the requisite traitsof a DEP student – confident, well spoken, adaptable and takes directionwell
- Ability to cope with the rigourof the A-Level curriculum

Expectations of students selected into the programme
Students admitted through DSA Drama Elective Programme must
(1) offer H2 Theatre Studies and Drama (this is an examinableA-Level subject);
(2) *participate in English Drama Singapore Youth FestivalArts Presentation and;
(3) be involved in TSD workshops and outreach events

* The student is not expected to join the English Drama Club as their CCA, but is required to participate in the development, rehearsals, and presentation of the SYF AP Drama performance.

Humanities
Programme

Format:
(1) Applicant must submit the following:
(a) ONE essay containing the applicant’s response to the following prompt:

Share about a book, movie, performance, or work of art, which you findso compelling, that you will engage with it again. Why does it captivateor bewilder you?

The essay must not exceed 500 words and must not bewritten using the aid of generative AI tools.

(b) Portfolio consisting of a maximum of THREE writingsamples showcasing the applicant’s ability in the Humanities subjects (e.g.English Literature, Geography, History, Art, Drama) AND English Language.

The writing samples in the portfolio may be work done for school or externalcompetitions and/or publications but must not be group work.If you are submitting work that is part of group work, please highlightthe individual component.

(c) Supporting documents providing evidence of the applicant’s participationand/or achievements in Humanities-related programmes, competitions and/orevents (e.g. Model United Nations conferences, current affairs competitions,creative writing programmes, school-based Humanities talent developmentprogrammes)

(2) Shortlisted applicants will attend a group interview, which includesa written and/or oral response to stimulus resources.

*Please note incomplete essay/portfolio submissions will not be entertained.

Selection Criteria:
(1) Demonstration of strong interest and aptitude in the Humanities;
(2) Evidence of participation and/or achievements in Humanities-relatedprogrammes, competitions and/or events;
(3) Ability to cope with the rigour of the A-level curriculum.

Expectations of students selected into the programme:
Students admitted to VJC via DSA (Humanities Programme) must
(1) Enrol in the Arts course;
(2) Offer H2 Literature in English at the A-level Examinations;
(3) Be actively involved in the Humanities Programme in VJC.

Format:
(1) All applicants must submit a personal statement (maximum500 words) describing their involvement in Computing-related activities,accompanied by relevant supporting documents.

Supporting documents may include:

  • Certificates from competitions such as the National Olympiad in Informatics,National Cybersecurity Olympiad, National Olympiad in AI and other hackathons.

  • Certifications or evidence of completed courses, workshops, bootcamps,or work attachments.

  • Examples of Computing-related projects.

(2) Shortlisted applicants will be required to complete aComputing Aptitude Test, which assesses problem-solving skills, numericalability, logical reasoning, perceptual reasoning, and understanding ofprogramming concepts. The test will not include any coding questions.

(3) Shortlisted applicants will then be invited for an interview.

Selection Criteria:
(1) Applicants should demonstrate a strong aptitude for andinterest in Computing.
(2) Applicants should provide evidence of active involvementin Computing-related activities.
(3)Applicants should offer H2 Computing and demonstrate theability to manage the rigour of the A-Level curriculum.

Expectations of students selected into the programme
Students admitted through Computing DSA must
(i) offer H2 Computing,
(ii)actively participate in and lead Computing-relatedevents at VJC and beyond
(iii) provide peer tutoring to selected H2 Computing students.

Science Research

Date & Time of Interview:
15 July 2025 (Tuesday) 3.30pm – 6.30pm
17 July 2025 (Thursday) 3.30pm – 6.30pm

Format:
(1) Applicants must submita personal statement (maximum 500 words) detailing his/her involvementin STEM/research activities with relevant supporting documents.

Supporting documents may include:
- abstracts of research reports
- photos of exhibits, prototypes
- certificates related to courses,workshops, or other involvement in the field of STEM/Science research

(2) Shortlisted applicants willattend an interview which includes an oral review of a research article

Selection Criteria:
(1) Demonstration of knowledge, interest and passionin STEM Research
(2) Clear articulation of motivation and purpose injoining Research@VJC
(3) Evidence of past experiences relevant to STEM Research
(4) Ability to cope with the rigour of the A-Levelcurriculum

Expectations of students selected into the programme
Students admitted through DSA Science Research must
(i) offer H3 NAV Science Research (this is anexaminable A-Level subject);
(ii) participate in SSEF and
(iii) be involved in VJC Science and Technology Centreevents.
